Exploring the “L Word” — Vehicle Leasing

March 18th, 2026 by

Hi, I’m Marsha, the receptionist at Wareing Sturgis Ford, and today I’m blogging about deep roots and uncharted territory.

If your roots are deep in the Black Hills area, you most likely descend from pioneers — those brave souls who overcame plenty of doubts to settle uncharted territory.

In today’s world, uncharted territory comes in many forms.

How many of us pass up opportunities simply because we’re not quite that brave?

Health screenings. Autonomous vehicles. Free dinners with a sales pitch. Automation.

And… vehicle leasing.

Yes, I just used the L word — leasing.

There’s no question leasing isn’t right for everyone. But take a little peek into this territory with me. I wanted to share this because just last week I found myself asking my husband why we had never considered leasing vehicles for his mother.

First, a few benefits of leasing compared to buying:

  • It’s an easy way to get into newer, technologically advanced vehicles every 2–3 years.
  • Down payments are typically much lower.
  • Monthly payments are often lower compared to purchasing.
  • If you only need a vehicle short-term, the financial commitment is shorter.
  • Leased vehicles are usually still under warranty, which can lower maintenance costs.
  • There’s no resale hassle — you simply turn the vehicle in if you choose not to purchase it.

Of course, leasing isn’t the best option for every situation. But here’s why I think it might have been a good fit for my mother-in-law:

  • A purchase requires a larger down payment, and she would much rather spend that money traveling with friends.
  • My husband and I would appreciate the peace of mind of having her vehicle under warranty.
  • On a limited income, lower monthly payments are important.
  • She keeps her car incredibly clean — pristine, actually — so unusual wear and tear wouldn’t be a concern.
  • She might drive 8,000 miles a year.
  • She’s not concerned about owning or customizing a vehicle.

If we had known more about leasing at the time, there might not have been any hesitation.

Please don’t tell her.

Too few of us venture far enough into this “uncharted territory” of vehicle leasing to make a truly informed decision.

Before you buy your next vehicle anywhere, consider stopping by Wareing Sturgis Ford and sitting down with our Sales Manager, Kristi Arambel. Her eyes light up at the opportunity to educate buyers about leasing, and she’s very good at explaining every detail.

And while you’re visiting with Kristi, ask about her family’s deep roots in the Beulah, Wyoming area. She enjoys sharing that story just as much.

Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you soon.
