Would Plato Have Driven a Maverick?

April 8th, 2026 by

Hi, this is Marsha, the receptionist at Wareing Sturgis Ford.

Plato is credited with saying, “A good decision is based on knowledge and not on numbers.”

We’ve all made decisions where we should have done a little more homework, asked a few more questions, or simply let someone with experience guide us. I can think of more than a few times my parents said, “I wish you had asked me about that first.”

I sometimes wonder what Plato said to his kids.

Knowledge. Shared wisdom. Standing on the shoulders of others — whatever you call it, sometimes we all need someone who’s looking out for our best interest to help us make a good decision.

When you walk through the doors at Wareing Sturgis Ford with the goal of buying a vehicle, you’re not just meeting a sales consultant — you’re meeting someone whose job is to help you make the right decision for your life.

I’ve been surprised more than once by the choices customers make after sitting down and visiting with one of our consultants. People often come in with a specific vehicle in mind, but after a thoughtful conversation, they sometimes leave with something completely different — and better suited to their needs.

Let me share a story from this week.

Jaclyn, one of our sales consultants, was visiting with a couple who have been longtime customers. They retired to the Black Hills several years ago and have a habit of stopping in before their warranty expires to talk through their next vehicle.

They usually come in with something specific in mind.

This time was no different.

Jaclyn made coffee, and they sat down to talk — not just about vehicles, but about life. As the conversation unfolded, she learned that getting in and out of their current vehicle had become more difficult, and that the wife was sometimes using a walker.

Then Jaclyn asked a question that caught my attention:

“Have you ever considered a Maverick?”

She explained her thinking:

  • It’s easy to get in and out of.
  • It offers a comfortable ride that doesn’t feel like a traditional truck.
  • It’s easier to park.
  • It offers all-wheel drive.
  • There’s space to store a walker and small project items.
  • It has excellent fuel economy, especially the hybrid.
  • And it fits their price range.

There happened to be a Maverick in the showroom, so she walked them over to take a look.

I watched as they got in and sat side by side. It was one of those moments where you could just tell — it fit. They looked comfortable. They looked at ease. It was like watching two birds settle into a nest.

They went home in a Maverick.

Jaclyn listened. She asked questions. She understood their needs. And she used that knowledge to guide them toward the right decision.

Plato would have been proud.

The next time you’re considering a vehicle purchase, stop in and gather a little knowledge from any of our sales consultants — Reynold, Jaclyn, Mark, or Todd. They’re all excellent at what they do.

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your visit.

Coffee’s always ready.
